| These years saw a great deal of improvement on all sides of RLM's efforts. It was the twilight of analogue tape and meticulous processing. It was a return to past influences and progressive promise. What started as a standalone digital recording unit purchased in 2002 turned into a complete computer generated project studio (RELUCTANT ICON) by 2005 with his move from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Out of a damp basement into a proper environmentally controlled workspace, RLM's technological advancements and change of atmosphere has led him to create some of his best work ever. He delved into interesting musical arrangements and styles, not allowing himself to be limited to a particular style or genre. TV underscores for Discovery Health Channel and BBC with composer Scott Pearson of Influence Music was an invaluable experience. Also, it was a time to revisit some older material with longtime collaborator Matthew Shelly. They recorded and arranged a concept album that was written back in the 1980's when they were in High School called REVELATION. Matt and Rich worked in separate studios and states, mailing (snail mail, that is) wave files back and forth. It was a great achievement for both of them and they also managed to record "Shallow Thought", the first song they ever wrote together. Remastering older material has been an ongoing project as of late, along with new creative endeavors for future release! These years witnessed the release of 9 albums of solo material. Every one a different venture of musical genres, all of which can be sampled in the discography. Unfortunately, this period ended with tragedy. The death of his beloved wife, Ronnett. Obviously, this slowed his output and projects as he tried to mend his life back together. Inspiration was lost, as his most precious muse passed beyond the veil. A new life will manifest new projects...and from sources unexpected! |
