SCYTHIAN SISTER "Diverse instrumentation and tempo changes all occur seamlessly within the structure of this track. Nice work! Very memorable musical hooks brought in early and used well throughout the song."
WITCHFIRE "I love the pounding beat driving this track forward. The keyboards provide a great contrast for the heavier style the bass and guitar bring to the track."
SWIFT FLIGHT II "The instrumentation and performance of this track are stellar. The space sounds brought in by the keyboard and the world beat provided by the Spanish style guitar offer lots of interesting (and challenging) sections for listeners to attach to and learn from within the arrangement. Excellent work, Richard."
"Good tracks, Richard! You have a clear understanding of the use of musical hooks to build memorability in song."

"Scythian Sister" Richard L. McCorkell
Equipment: PC with Steinberg Cubase LE and TASCAM FW-1802, Fostex VF160, PreSonus BlueTube and BlueMax, Digitech GNX1 guitar processor, Behringer Dualfex Pro Exciter/Enhancer, Event 8XL Monitors.
Music: “Scythian Sister” is a rock instrumental with some metal, prog, and fusion elements. Richard wrote, arranged, programmed/performed and handled all of the recording chores in his home studio.
Recording: Often in the Readers’ Tapes column, we speak of the challenges and potential pitfalls that can arise from a “one man band” project. More often than not, they can be less than successful due to the sheer amount of focus and perspective required, along with the task of mastering multiple skill sets. Given that, we were quite impressed by Richard’s track, “Scythian Sister.”
Not only are the performances first-rate, but the track maintains a bit of whimsy throughout its rather elaborate arrangement. His tones, particularly on the guitar and bass, are meaty and full-bodied. The drums, although programmed, maintain a realistic approach (nothing here that a live drummer wouldn’t or couldn’t do), and the mix is nicely balanced and powerful without any signs of artifact. Well done!
Suggestions: Richard tells us that while “it was hard giving up the ghost of analog tape, I love the unlimited options that come with computer based recording.” It sounds to us like Richard has the production chops to use those options wisely and creatively.
Summary: No need for a new hat rack – you’re wearing all of yours successfully.
